The Celebratory Battle

It was a competition this year between Kid Day and Birth Week. We didn’t know who would win or how one would reign supreme over the other, but then a cousin joined the fray and joined the sides into one fun-filled weekend that included all things kid.

The vote for Kid Day was unanimous: a morning of video games, one easy stop at Trafalga, pizza for dinner, and an evening with the Muppets.

Kid Day 2014?

Mission accomplished. Successfully. (And easily, I might add…)

Birth Week X 6

What’s another year? I mean, really…

5? 6? Who can tell the difference?

Well….

The day before Miles’ birthday—when he was a lowly five—didn’t look anything like this, for starters…

And he didn’t get this for dinner…

He didn’t get to do this…

or get this cool stuff…

So, yeah…I think Birth Week makes a big difference between five and six.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MILES!

Our Peeps

These are they…

The ones who have been there from the beginning, who have comforted during long, sleepless nights or scary storms…those who have been clutched, pulled, yanked, thrown, tossed and  squeezed. These are they who have been stuffed into bags, taken road trips, been carried, biked and flown. They have acquired many voices and names, been thrown into countless scenarios, both life-threatening and serene. They have slept on beds, in closets, on floors, been crammed into small spaces and lost, found, and their stuffing reconfigured.

These are they who are mementos of life events, family trips and rites of passage, those who have borne all manner of affliction, tenderness, feats of gravity and invisibility.  Some are old, some are young, some are splitting at the seams, which we hope is from the happiness that comes from being much loved. :)
