Meet the Tannenbaums

*Let it be sounded abroad in the land that I am a tree hugger and do not condone the murdering of any tree, and am reassured every year that pine trees are HONORED to become Christmas trees…keep telling yourselves that, you heartless Tree Slayers. (This is directed to my husband and the Taylors, specifically.) As you can plainly see below, I have, once again, lost the battle of the ARTIFICIAL TREE CAMPAIGN and am guilty by association for displaying an innocent and very beautiful tree in my front room.

She could have been enjoying a full, long life of beauty and tranquility like this….

But with her life cut short, she is spending her indoor, non-forest days like this, instead…

december 1 1897

Meet Joy Tannenbaum.

(Yes, I named her and will name all Christmas trees in the future…)

She is beautiful, I must admit. So, to honor her and her martyrdom for the Christmas Cause, I trimmed her in a Seventies Sparkle theme,

december 1 1899

stroke her needles each day and sing:

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, Of all the trees most lovely;

Each year, you bring to me delight Gleaming in the Christmas night.

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, Of all the trees most lovely.

This is her smaller, plastic-enhanced family member,

Thunder Snowball Tannenbaum.

(His name changes yearly, depending upon the theme which is solely at the discretion of the 3-year old owner….this year, very meteorologically-minded. He wanted an "alien" tree with Thunder--which he thinks looks like lightning, and snowballs. And here is the result....wear it proudly, Thunder.)

And this is the story of how Joy came to live at our house this holiday season:

Her new adoptive family went

december 1 1836

over the frozen river and through the woods,

december 1 1837

scanned the forest for the perfect fit, cleared a path and

december 1 1840 Joy took her final ride through the forest on the back of the closest thing we have to Santa’s sleigh-- Keith’s all-weather, all-terrain Rhino, complete with roll bars, heater, extra row of seating and GPS.)

(I plugged my ears so I couldn’t hear Joy’s sobs from leaving her family, friends and native land.)
