*Mahalo, Dorito Fingers, for all your special skills.

*A special Mahalo to Popcorn, the Puppy of Friendship, for bringing (and keeping) Heather and Jeff together  in travel peace and harmony.

*Fluffy Sky Lounge towels? Mahalo to you, as well.

*But NO MAHALO, exploding grill. There’s already one volcano on this island. Simmer down.

*Knitting Needles of Frustration, you deserve a hearty Mahalo.

*BKE Burger…you are everything to me. And I mean EVERYTHING.

*A big Hawaiian Mahalo shout out to the U.S. FBI for giving Heather the week off. We sure appreicate you sharing her with us.

*No Mahalo, Pufferfish, for hiding during my dive.

*Mahalo, Christopher’s Flowing Beach Vest, for accompanying us on this adventure. And always being so photogenic, both in and out of the water, both wet and dry.

*Mahalo, Aquatic Mountain Horse, for being so all-terrain. And being named Heather. You look like a Heather.

*Mahalo, S and W, for being more than just a letter…

*Mahalo, Wetsuit, for giving me a four-hour hug.

*Mahalo to Kauai’s indigenous people and their newest American chapter president , Sits with Naked Thigh.

*Mahalo, Shark, for being the only one left to accompany Christopher on his dive.

*Mahalo, Shea, for chumming the water for Shark.

*Many Mahalos for the birth of  Burgicken. The culinary world  won’t know what hit them. But really, it’s just a big slab of meat samplings. And Mahalo, Chef Jeff and D-Shea for birthing it.

*Mahalo “BEEP” You saved us from many uncomfortable moments. Unfortunately, you did not manage to save us from all…

*Mahalo, Aqua Lift Chair, for showing us how fun being disabled really can be.

*Mahalo, Polly Pocket Beach, for being life-sized and not plastic.

*Mahalo for the vertigo, Roundabout.

*Mahalo, Quinoa, for being this trip’s mascot, even though you’re small. But not so small that Dante didn’t recognize you for what you REALLY are.

*Mahalo, laxatives, for being Katie’s best birthday present EVER.

*Mahalo, My Grandpa the Nazi, for being the best forthcoming book title EVER. And, Jeff, mahalo for having a Nazi grandpa.

*Mahalo, Kauai, for always—and I mean ALWAYS—showing us a good time. Mahalo, Taylors and Dastrups, for making a good time in Kauai a GREAT time in Kauai!!

 

Queryland

On venturing into Queryland…

It’s a place constructed of impenetrable walls and sealed doors on the outskirts of Agentville and a few miles from Published.

There’s a lot of door- knocking going on and, surprisingly, a few doors have inched open, while others have either disappeared entirely or remain unanswered.

Things you must know before exploring Queryland:

Patience is a virtue: True

No news is good news: Not true

Persistence pays off: Currently Testing

Onward and knock, knock, knock.

Switzerland via Sundance

Our first date of the2013 Dates Around the World series: Switzerland

If we can’t actually visit each place on our list right now, there’s nothing stopping us from  pretending. Thank you,snowshoes, and thank you,  Sundance, for providing Switzerland-like conditions and ambiance.

(But we were brought promptly back to reality by a snowball ambush. Thank you, tree, for taking the blows.)
